is an interview series that explores perspectives and stories from individuals who are either diagnosed with or survivors of cancer.

The Hope Initiative

Every year, millions of people are diagnosed with cancer, and many never fully recover. Getting this news changes people in a deep way. Time, which once seemed endless, suddenly feels limited. In that moment, something remarkable can happen.

Psychologist Laura Carstensen’s Socioemotional Selectivity Theory helps explain this change. Her research shows that when people see their future as limited, their priorities shift. Instead of focusing on gaining more experiences or knowledge, they turn toward what matters most emotionally: deeper relationships, being present, and finding purpose. Cancer patients often experience this firsthand.

Some patients, even when facing tough odds, find a deeper connection to their own lives because of their diagnosis. The pressure of having less time doesn’t only bring fear; it can also bring clarity. Things that once seemed urgent fade away, and what truly matters becomes clear.

The Hope Initiative was created to honor that transformation. Through personal stories, this film series shows how a diagnosis changes the way people live, love, and find meaning. It celebrates those who, no matter what they face, choose to fight for their own happiness.
